Structure the unknown.
Data collection, expert labeling, mathematical modeling, and iterative validation.

I’m Jiuhui Xu — a student researcher, mathematical modeler, and dancer. I build systems that turn motion into insight, then carry that thinking into teams, stages, and communities.

One mind, multiple modes
Both ask the same questions: What is the system doing? Where is the imbalance? How can a precise adjustment change the whole outcome?
Data collection, expert labeling, mathematical modeling, and iterative validation.
Choreography, spatial awareness, rehearsal design, and embodied precision.
Start with the human reality: an injured dancer, an unstable model, a team under pressure.
Turn ambiguity into variables, roles, experiments, or a rehearsal system people can use.
Test, notice what fails, and improve the system without losing sight of the people inside it.
Projects as living systems
Initiated a video-based system to assess the completeness and quality of ballet turns. Designed the expert-labeling workflow, recruited ballet specialists, and expanded the usable video dataset after diagnosing limitations in the original samples.
“Very innovative” · “Very high technical quality” · “Top quality”
Built and cleaned a substantial text corpus, ran pilot calculations, diagnosed unstable outputs, and repeatedly revised the data-collection strategy. The paper connected mathematical reasoning with literary interpretation.
Synthesized PNIPAM-HPC and PNIPAM-PAM hydrogel specimens for controlled comparison. Measured tradeoffs across responsiveness, robustness, shrinkage, and reversibility, then presented a poster at the 11th ICAEE conference.
Self-studied differential equations, physics-informed neural networks, and 3D Gaussian Splatting. Synthesized the mathematical background, current limitations, and a proposed combined research pathway.
The ideas leave the page
Two working projects turn different parts of my practice into experiences people can use: one listens with children; the other reads movement with data.
Little loops Storytime
A gentle English picture-book audio library for young listeners, with eight stories, saved progress, favorites, playback controls, and a sleep timer.
BaTec · Ballet Turn Assessment
A live video-analysis interface for ballet turn completion and movement quality, translating a performance into an assessment dancers can inspect.
Each portal opens the working project in a new tab, so the resume stays as your map while the work becomes the destination.
Beyond the model
01
Founded an inclusive school club, taught dancers in small groups, and unified different experience levels into one performance standard.
Founder · Choreographer · Student coach2,000+
Combined jazz, cheerleading, and contemporary dance into an accessible group program that spread across multiple campuses.
Cross-school exchange · Formation designA/V
Turned reading into discussion, drama, audio production, original music, and a campus-life video — shaping structure, pacing, and interpretation.
Organizer · Director · Performer300+
Organized reading events for young children, donated books across three provinces, and shared study methods and technical tools with younger students and teammates.
Public service · Creative communicationThe wider picture
Research, leadership, dance, and service come together as one connected practice.

I’m exploring the space where data, people, and embodied experience meet.
